Alibaba’s Qwen‑3.5 Medium Model Series Sets New Benchmark for Efficient AI
Alibaba’s Qwen team has unveiled the Qwen‑3.5 Medium model series, a production‑ready AI suite that proves smaller models can outperform larger, more resource‑hungry counterparts. Built on a Mixture‑of‑Experts (MoE) architecture with active parameters, the 35B‑parameter model already exceeds the performance of its 70B predecessor while consuming far less compute.
The flagship 35B model delivers state‑of‑the‑art results on standard benchmarks and introduces a Flash version capable of handling a 1‑million token context window. This version also ships with built‑in tool‑use capabilities, making it ready for real‑world deployments straight out of the box.
Beyond the medium‑sized models, Alibaba released agentic variants (27B and 122B) that showcase advanced reasoning and tool‑integration, positioning the Qwen‑3.5 series as a versatile solution for both enterprise and research use cases.
