NVIDIA Starts Supplying GH200 AI Chips to Tata Communications and Jio Platforms

In a groundbreaking move, NVIDIA has commenced the delivery of its cutting-edge GH200 AI chips to Indian tech giants Tata Communications and Jio Platforms. This strategic partnership aims to enhance India’s AI-cloud infrastructure, following NVIDIA’s collaboration with Reliance and Tata Group companies announced last September.

Powering India’s AI Revolution

The GH200 AI chips, designed for high-performance computing and data analytics, are being seamlessly integrated into the AI-cloud infrastructure of Tata Communications and Jio Platforms. Tata Communications’ Managing Director and CEO A.S.Lakshminarayanan confirmed that the installation process is well underway, with a full launch of the AI Cloud with NVIDIA expected by the third quarter of this fiscal year.

Government Support for AI Innovation

The Indian government has been proactive in its support for AI development, as evidenced by the IndiaAI mission launched in March 2024. This mission aims to make India a global leader in AI by investing in computing infrastructure, fostering innovation, and supporting startups. The government’s commitment is further underscored by significant investments, including a INR 10,300 crore allocation to expand AI infrastructure and make GPUs more accessible.

Yotta’s Pioneering Role

In March 2024, Yotta, an elite partner, received the first shipment of 4,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, marking a significant milestone in India’s AI journey. Yotta plans to scale up its GPU inventory to 32,768 units by the end of 2025, further solidifying its position as a leading AI infrastructure provider.

“I have ordered 16,000 [GPUs], so if there are five customers each wanting to make a GPT-4, I can handle their load simultaneously,” said Yotta’s CEO.

NVIDIA’s Elite Partner Program

Acquiring NVIDIA’s highly valued GPUs is no easy feat. NVIDIA sells its GPUs through the NVIDIA Partner Program, which includes Registered, Preferred, and Elite categories. Elite partners represent the highest level of partnership and are reserved for those demonstrating exceptional commitment to NVIDIA’s technology and solutions.

Conclusion: A Brighter Future for AI in India

With the delivery of NVIDIA’s GH200 AI chips to Tata Communications and Jio Platforms, India’s AI infrastructure is poised for a significant boost. Coupled with the government’s support and the involvement of companies like Yotta, India’s AI ecosystem is rapidly evolving, paving the way for groundbreaking innovations and further solidifying the country’s position as a global AI powerhouse.
