Apple announced today that its newest iPhone and iPad models have received NATO certification to process classified information, a first for consumer‑grade devices. The approval confirms that the devices meet stringent security standards, including end‑to‑end encryption, secure boot, and hardware‑based key management, allowing them to be used in highly sensitive military and government environments.
According to Apple, the certification process involved rigorous testing by NATO’s security agencies. The company highlighted new Secure Enclave capabilities, hardened operating system components, and a dedicated “Classified Mode” that isolates sensitive data from regular apps and networks.
