Although 1.5.1 is a minor update, it brings several improvements that will benefit both end users and companies making these types of devices. The most notable update is more efficient camera streaming that will help reduce bandwidth demands when multiple people or systems are accessing the same feed. With Matter 1.5.1, cameras can simultaneously deliver multiple video streams with quality settings tailored to what it’s being used for. A video recorder would get a high-resolution stream for archival purposes, while a lower resolution stream optimized for mobile devices would be provided to phones and tablets.RelatedHands on with Aqara’s new Matter-compatible cameraOther improvements include added support for HEIC images that offer better quality and smaller file sizes than JPEGs, as well as the HLS and DASH streaming formats for “greater compatibility with the streaming technologies widely used by modern cloud and media platforms.” Matter 1.5.1 will also introduce improved positioning and movement for pan-tilt-zoom cameras, while doorbell devices will be able to play more than the default chime when the button is pressed – including fun seasonal alternatives – and trigger automations when the chime starts playing.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Andrew LiszewskiCloseAndrew LiszewskiSenior Reporter, NewsPosts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All by Andrew LiszewskiMatterCloseMatterPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All MatterNewsCloseNewsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NewsSmart HomeCloseSmart HomePosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All Smart HomeTechCloseTechPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All TechMost PopularMost PopularAnother Starlink satellite has inexplicably explodedFor $200 more, you can get a MacBook AirYou can finally replace your embarrassing Gmail usernameThere is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter seriesSamsung finally brings blood pressure tracking to US Galaxy WatchesThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.Advertiser Content FromThis is the title for the native adMore in TechEvercade’s new handheld has a larger screen and dual thumbsticks for 3D gamesThe Galaxy S26’s photo app can sloppify your memoriesThe Sonos Play and mic-less Era 100 SL are now availableThe best deals to shop on the last day of Amazon’s Big Spring SaleMeta launches new ‘prescription optimized’ smart glassesSony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones are a whopping 39 percent offEvercade’s new handheld has a larger screen and dual thumbsticks for 3D gamesAndrew LiszewskiTwo hours agoThe Galaxy S26’s photo app can sloppify your memoriesAllison JohnsonTwo hours agoThe Sonos Play and mic-less Era 100 SL are now availableSheena VasaniTwo hours agoThe best deals to shop on the last day of Amazon’s Big Spring SaleSheena Vasani and Brandon Widder3:32 PM UTCMeta launches new ‘prescription optimized’ smart glassesVictoria Song3:16 PM UTCSony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones are a whopping 39 percent offCameron Faulkner3:14 PM UTCAdvertiser Content FromThis is the title for the native adTop Stories1:00 PM UTCThe AirPods Max 2 are a great sequel, but not an ambitious one11:00 AM UTCApple at 50: a visual historyTwo hours agoNo Kings is taking back AmericanaTwo hours agoThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie is beautiful but a little too busy3:00 PM UTCArt schools are being torn apart by AIMar 27Rank the 50 best Apple products
