Academic Study Explores AI’s Impact on Software Development – Join the Research
New research from New York University and City, University of London is seeking software developers across the United States to share their experiences with AI tools in daily coding work. The study, announced on Hacker News (original discussion), aims to capture a balanced view of how generative AI is reshaping development workflows, decision‑making, and career trajectories.
Participants will take part in a 45‑ to 60‑minute Zoom interview covering topics such as:
- Current AI tool usage (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Gemini)
- Changes in coding practices and team collaboration
- Perceived benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations
- Career impact and future skill requirements
Eligibility requirements include being based in the U.S. and having professional software development experience at any seniority level. While there is no monetary compensation, participants will contribute to a peer‑reviewed publication that will be shared with all contributors (learn more about our AI research).
The study has received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from NYU, and all interview data will be kept confidential. Interested developers can fill out a short Qualtrics form to express interest and verify eligibility.
