Spotify Introduces Smart Reorder: Seamless Playlist Transitions for Premium Users
Spotify is rolling out a new Smart Reorder feature that automatically arranges the tracks in a playlist by tempo (BPM) and musical key. The goal is to create smoother, DJ‑style transitions without any manual effort from the listener.
Only available to Premium subscribers for now, Smart Reorder works on any user‑created playlist or Spotify‑generated mix. Once activated, the algorithm analyses each song’s key and beats‑per‑minute, then re‑orders the list so that the next track naturally flows from the previous one. This is the latest addition to Spotify’s broader push toward playlist automation, which also includes the recently launched Auto‑Mix and Curated Playlist Guides.
According to Spotify’s product team, the feature is designed for users who want a continuous listening experience—whether they’re working out, studying, or hosting a party. The Smart Reorder toggle can be found in the playlist settings under “Enhance listening flow.” Users can also revert to the original order with a single click.
While the feature is currently limited to Premium accounts, Spotify hinted that a free‑tier version may arrive later in the year as part of its ongoing effort to make advanced listening tools more accessible.
