China Forms Humanoid Robot Standards Committee – 65 Industry Leaders Set New Safety and Tech Benchmarks
Beijing, 25 Nov 2025 – The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has officially launched the Standardisation Technical Committee for Humanoid Robots, bringing together 65 members from leading manufacturers, research institutes and universities. The committee, chaired by deputy chairs Wang Xingxing and Peng Zhihui, aims to create the first comprehensive set of safety, core‑technology and application standards for humanoid robots in China.
Key participants include prominent robotics firms such as Unitree, ZhiYuan, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE and XPeng. Academic partners from top Chinese universities and research institutes are also represented, ensuring a blend of industry practice and scientific rigor.
Mandate and Focus Areas
- Safety Standards: Defining risk‑assessment procedures, emergency‑stop mechanisms, and human‑robot interaction protocols.
- Core Technologies: Standardising hardware interfaces, sensor fusion, AI‑driven perception, and locomotion control.
- Application Guidelines: Covering service‑robot use cases in healthcare, education, logistics and public services.
The committee will work closely with existing national standards bodies and will publish its first draft standards by the end of 2026.
Why It Matters
Humanoid robots are rapidly moving from laboratory prototypes to commercial products. By establishing clear standards, China aims to boost consumer confidence, accelerate market adoption, and position its domestic manufacturers—such as Unitree and ZhiYuan—at the forefront of the global AI robotics race.
