Uber, in partnership with Chinese autonomous‑mobility company WeRide, has officially launched a completely driverless robotaxi fleet on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The service, which went live to the public this week, marks the first deployment of a Level‑4 autonomous vehicle network outside the United States and China.
The fleet consists of several sleek, electric robotaxis that operate without any human safety driver on board. Riders can request a ride through the Uber app, select the “Robotaxi” option, and be matched with a driverless vehicle that navigates the island’s streets using a combination of LiDAR, cameras, and high‑definition maps.
