LinkedIn’s BrowserGate Program Exposes EU Users to Corporate Espionage

LinkedIn’s BrowserGate Program Exposes EU Users to Corporate Espionage

Recent investigations have uncovered that LinkedIn’s BrowserGate program covertly scans the browsers of site visitors, harvesting a wealth of personal data—including religious, political, and employment information—as well as details about the competitor tools users employ. This practice enables sophisticated corporate espionage and directly contravenes EU privacy regulations.

The program collects data such as IP addresses, device fingerprints, installed extensions, and even the content of open tabs. By aggregating this information, LinkedIn can build detailed profiles of individuals and organizations, providing a competitive edge to its advertising customers while violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Legal experts warn that the systematic, undisclosed data collection could result in substantial fines and legal actions across the European Union. Advocacy groups are calling for immediate regulatory intervention and greater transparency from LinkedIn regarding its data‑collection methodologies.
