WhatsApp Launches “About” Feature, Echoing Instagram Notes – Meta Updates Messaging App
Meta has rolled out a new “About” status for WhatsApp, allowing users to share short text updates that appear at the top of their chat list, similar to Instagram’s Notes. The feature lets users set custom visibility, choose an expiration time, and update their status with a single tap.
According to the official announcement, the About banner can be seen by anyone in a user’s contact list unless the user restricts it to “My Contacts” or “My Contacts Except…”. The text is limited to 139 characters and can be set to disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or remain indefinitely.
Meta’s spokesperson highlighted that the addition aims to give users a “quick way to let friends know what they’re up to” without the need for a full‑blown status or story. The move mirrors Instagram’s recent Notes feature, which also provides a short‑form, temporary update visible to followers.
