Atlassian Announces 10% Workforce Cut to Accelerate AI Investment

Atlassian, the enterprise software giant behind Jira and Confluence, has announced a 10% reduction in its global workforce as part of a strategic push to accelerate its artificial intelligence initiatives. The layoffs, affecting roughly 1,200 employees, mirror recent moves by fintech company Block, which also trimmed staff to fund AI development.

According to the company’s statement, the cuts are aimed at reallocating resources toward AI‑driven product enhancements, cloud infrastructure, and new machine‑learning features that will help customers automate workflows and improve collaboration. The decision comes as the tech industry faces a broader wave of layoffs, with many firms reshaping their operations in response to economic pressures and the rapid evolution of AI technologies.

While the reduction is significant, Atlassian emphasized that the remaining teams will receive additional investment to speed up AI research and integration across its product suite. The company also highlighted its commitment to supporting affected employees through severance packages, career transition assistance, and extended health benefits.
